Service Overview
Dry-Wall Works —
The Brief, In Plain English.
What It Is
Dry-wall construction uses timber or metal studs lined with plasterboard to form internal walls, ceilings and partitions — faster, cleaner and often more flexible than masonry. Drylining covers full plasterboard linings over existing walls. Tape-and-joint finishes give you a paint-ready surface without wet plaster.
Who It's For
Homeowners reconfiguring internal layouts; landlords splitting properties or adding en-suites; loft converters needing fire-rated stair enclosures; commercial fit-outs needing acoustic and fire partitions; anyone wanting a clean, fast internal wall without weeks of drying time.
When You Need It
Once structural openings are formed and first-fix services are routed. Dry-wall systems install quickly and don't need the drying time wet plaster demands, which keeps your overall programme tight.
Why It Matters
Dry-wall fails when it isn't square, plumb, or acoustically detailed. Studs at the wrong centres bow, fixings pull out, doors don't shut, and sound travels straight through. Done properly it's invisible — and that's the point.
What Happens If You Wait
The Cost Of
Doing Nothing.
Dry-wall is unforgiving — once the board is up, you live with whatever is behind it.
Risks Of Ignoring It
- →Stud centres wrong — board sags between studs, screw pops appear.
- →Acoustic detailing skipped — bedroom-to-bathroom sound transmission you can't fix without ripping out.
- →Fire-rated partition built to a non-fire-rated detail — building control fails, insurance void.
- →Tape-and-joint poorly finished — every joint shows under raking light forever.
- →Heavy fittings (TV, basin, radiator) fixed without noggins — pulled out of the wall.
Common Mistakes Customers Make
- ×Buying the cheapest plasterboard — wrong grade for the application.
- ×Using a single layer where a double-layer fire-rated build-up is required.
- ×Not isolating studs from masonry on acoustic walls.
- ×Skipping the primer before painting taped joints.
Our Process
First Call To
Final Sign-Off.
01
Survey & Spec
Confirm wall position, board spec (standard, moisture-resistant, fire, acoustic), stud type and any noggin / pattress requirements.
02
Fixed Quote
Itemised quote — studs, board grade, insulation, finishes — so the spec is locked, not assumed.
03
Frame
Track and stud at correct centres, plumb and square. Noggins for TVs, radiators, basins. Service penetrations cut clean.
04
Insulate & Board
Acoustic mineral wool, fire stopping where needed, plasterboard fixed with correct fasteners and centres. Double-layer staggered where fire-rated.
05
Tape & Joint
Taped, jointed and skim-coated to a Q3 paint-ready finish. Snag walked under raking light.

Full Service Area MapTimber Stud Partitions
Standard internal walls — 89mm or 70mm timber studs at 400mm or 600mm centres, plasterboard both sides, mineral wool fill for sound. Suitable for most domestic partition work.
Metal Stud Systems
Galvanised C-stud and U-track systems — fast install, dimensionally stable, ideal for commercial fit-outs and where straight, long walls matter. Easier to run services through pre-formed knockouts.
Acoustic Partitions
Double-layer plasterboard, resilient bars, acoustic mineral wool, isolated head and base details. The difference between hearing the TV next door and hearing nothing at all.
Fire-Rated Partitions
FD30 / FD60 systems for stair enclosures, plant rooms, HMOs and commercial separation. Built to manufacturer's tested detail with the right board grade and fixings — paperwork on file for building control.
Drylining & Suspended Ceilings
Full board-and-skim drylining over existing masonry walls (faster than wet plaster), suspended grid ceilings for commercial spaces, bulkheads and feature ceiling details.

Ask Yours
How much does a stud wall cost?
+
Varies by length, height, board grade and acoustic spec. We quote per linear metre or per wall in writing after a site visit, with the board spec named so you know what you're getting.
How long does it take to build a stud wall?
+
A standard internal stud wall in an average room — typically 1–2 days framed and boarded, plus a day for tape-and-joint. Acoustic and fire-rated walls take longer due to the build-up.
Can you fit fire doors as part of a partition?
+
Yes — fire doors, intumescent strips and the right ironmongery, fitted to the partition spec for building control sign-off.
Is dry wall as soundproof as a brick wall?
+
A well-specified acoustic stud wall (double board, resilient bar, mineral wool fill) outperforms a single-skin brick wall for airborne sound. The detail is what matters, not the material alone.
Can I hang heavy items like a TV on a stud wall?
+
Yes — we install noggins and pattress boards behind the plasterboard at the agreed positions. Tell us up front where the heavy fixings go and we frame for it.
Do you do moisture-resistant board for bathrooms?
+
Yes — green-faced moisture-resistant board (or full tile-backer board behind shower areas), with full tanking system before tiling on wet walls.
Can dry wall replace structural masonry walls?
+
No — load-bearing walls need structural design and either steel beams to take the load, or full masonry replacement. We can do the structural work alongside the dry wall.
Do you handle the electrical and plumbing first-fix?
+
We coordinate with your electrician and plumber, or bring in our own — first fix has to be in before we close the wall.
